IOSCO

Description

The International Organization of Securities Commissions — IOSCO — or International Organization of Securities Commissions, founded in 1983, is a global body that brings together various supervisors of securities market bodies, grouping more than 130 regulatory bodies.

IOSCO, through technical assistance to its members, training and coaching plans, pursues three objectives:

  • strengthen investor protection,
  • ensure markets are fair and efficient,
  • promote financial stability by reducing systemic risk.

In pursuit of its first objective, IOSCO compiles a list of warnings and alerts about entities not authorised to carry out financial activities in various jurisdictions, called Investor Alert. It brings together the warnings issued by the regulators of the jurisdictions participating in the organization.
