United Nations Organisation

Description

United Nations Organization — UNO — or the United Nations Organisation, or United Nations, is an international organisation created in 1945 by the impetus of the great allied powers after the Second World War. The objective of the United Nations is the maintenance of peace and international security. To achieve this objective, special competences are attributed to the United Nations Security Council.

The United Nations Security Council is the main body of the United Nations Organisation. Among the special competences granted to the Security Council is the possibility of implementing sanctions with the aim of restoring peace and international security. These United Nations sanctions programmes have taken various forms depending on the objectives to be achieved:

  • economic and trade sanctions,
  • financial restrictions or on certain products,
  • arms embargoes,
  • or travel bans.
